Alex Lanau is a self-taught surf artist painting murals and canvases throughout Costa Rica and the U.S.
Based mostly in Pavones, Costa Rica, he also spends time in California and Florida, painting walls, shipping sticker packs, and chasing waves.
His work blends bold lines, ocean energy, and pop-culture references — waves, creatures, mandalas, icons, and surfboards — drawn by hand using paint and paint pens.
Alex's murals have appeared in surf shops, taco stands, homes, and galleries from beach towns to cities. His art has shown up in Sports Illustrated, Surfer, Maxim, and Surfing, and he’s painted live at events alongside musicians and touring acts.
Vegan since his teens and rooted in beach and surf culture, Alex keeps things simple: draw often, paint big, and let the work speak for itself.
