In Southern Costa Rica, against the backdrop of the vast Pacific, stands a mural inspired by Hokusai’s iconic artwork—the “Great Wave.” This piece, however, is not just a visual tribute but a profound personal reflection. During a tumultuous period in my life, the mural emerged as a beacon of hope and healing. In a single, intense day—starting before the break of dawn and ending long after sunset—I immersed myself in its creation. Each brushstroke became a testament to the power of the ocean, a reminder of nature’s might and our place within it.
The “Great Wave” mural serves as a metaphor for life’s challenges and the importance of surrendering to its natural rhythms. Just as the ocean’s waves rise and fall, so do the phases of our lives, and in embracing this ebb and flow, we find peace. As the final touches settled on the canvas that night, so did the weight from my shoulders. The mural stands as evidence of art’s transformative power, a testament to its ability to heal, restore, and rejuvenate the spirit.
