In the wake of completing the black & white mural for Gypsy Life Surf Shop, a twist of fate led to the wall being resealed and stuccoed over for protection, causing the original mural to disappear. Rather than simply recreating the past, I felt inspired to evolve the narrative, breathing new life into the artwork.

“Second Wave” is not just a continuation, but a testament to renewal and resilience. Drawing inspiration from the initial design, this rendition introduces color, particularly celebrating Florida’s resurgence after the challenges of the pandemic. The inclusion of a “second wave” is more than just a nod to the ocean; it stands as a powerful metaphor, declaring our collective strength and readiness to face any subsequent challenges. By choosing dark blue in lieu of black, the mural softly whispers that our most trying times are behind us.

Crafted with dedication and a minimalist toolkit – a ladder, tape, paint, a level, a concrete nail, and a simple piece of string – this mural is a symbol of resourcefulness and the indomitable spirit of our community.
